Skeete will dedicate victories to Powell

26. September 2013

Bradley “Super” Skeete will dedicate his future victories to his late manager Dean Powell.

Powell, who was known throughout the fight game as “Mr Boxing”, was a regular presence in Skeete’s corner, however the 47-year-old died two weeks ago after falling under a train, and missed Skeete’s win in the Olympic Park’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday.

Dudley-born Powell spent 25 years in boxing as a trainer, cornerman and matchmaker and worked with some of Britain's finest including Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe and Amir Khan.

Bradley posted a comprehensive six round success over Kieron Gray, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

“The past couple of weeks have been real tough,” admitted Braldey, who moves to 13 successive victories, and within touching distance of getting a shot at the British title currently held by Birmingham’s Frankie Gavin.

“In the changing room beforehand I kept thinking that Dean will be walking through the door any minute now but obviously he wasn’t there, I just went through all the emotions.

“On the fight it was good work out for me and now I move on to the next one.”
